Concept Statement

University of Maryland, College Park provides a robust shuttle service system known as Shuttle-UM to help students navigate around campus much more efficiently. However, over time many apps such as NextBus to access bus routes and times have become lackluster and many students take to other methods of transportation such as cycling or walking on-campus. On examination of the issue of unreliability of apps such as NextBus, our team is curious on finding newer solutions that can make Shuttle-UM more appealing and convenient for more students. This project aims to gather information around campus from a variety of students to gain perspective on their transportation habits and what kinds of tools help them get around campus. This website we have created will be a portfolio of all our study’s findings including any artifacts along with any issues that we encounter in the process.

Client Breakdown

Our clients will be UMD students who rely on the transportation system to go to and from class. UMD students have class schedules they have to adhere to and places that they’d like to travel to off campus, so information regarding what time and how long it will take for a bus to reach their nearest bus stop is crucial in helping them get to class or to their desired destination on time. We will conduct interviews on campus and ask random UMD students to describe their experiences using the transportation system. It would be interesting to know whether people are satisfied with NextBus or prefer other applications to keep track of bus times.
